The Big 12 Softball Tournament returns to ASA Don E. Porter Hall of Fame
Stadium in Oklahoma City on May 11-14 for the 10th consecutive year.
All 10 schools that sponsor softball in the Big 12 (Baylor, Iowa State,
Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M,
Texas Tech) will compete in the event. Seeds #7-10 will participate in
play-in games on day one of the tournament to complete the eight-team
field. The tournament winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA
Division I Softball Tournament.
As the first sport contested in league history, softball held the first
postseason tournament in 1996.
Oklahoma won the inaugural league tourney title, which was the only
crown handed out that season. From that year on both a regular season
and postseason champion has been awarded.
Overall, defending champ Nebraska (1998, 2000, 2004) and Texas (1999,
2002-03) have won the most tournament championships with three each.
The Sooners follow with two (1996 and 2001) while Missouri claimed top
honors in 1997.
Hall of Fame Stadium has served as the site of each of these tournaments
over the years as well as the Women's College World Series 13 times and
is scheduled as the home of the event through 2006.
